UCM Students Impacted by Identity Theft Scheme
James Drake, 45 and his wife Amanda, 30 were arrested in June for developing a scheme to steal identities which involved some current students that attend University of Central Missouri as well. Investigators believe that as many as 7,000 people may have been affected by this plot. They should consider hiring a Kansas City criminal defense lawyer as soon as they can.
The Drakes home which is in foreclosure, was the scene where police found stolen computer printouts. These contained personal information such as social security numbers and names of thousands of summer 2005 and 2006 students. Police said that 12 of these had been used in the identity theft scheme.
Due to continuing investigation, the prosecutor has not yet filed charges in this case. Drake and his wife are currently out on bond, and officials at UCM have contacted everyone that was on the list to offer free credit monitoring for one year. Some declined, and others accepted the service.
