Driver Fails to Stop, Sheriff Killed in Atchison, KS

Thomas Conklin Jr., 42, was killed on July 10th when a 20 year old man failed to stop at a stop sign.  Conklin was the sheriff of the Kickapoo Tribal Police department.

The 20 year old, Matthew Dickson, struck the side of the minivan Conklin was driving when he failed to stop at a stop sign.  The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 73 and Neosho Road late Friday evening.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Conklin’s wife and three children were injured in the crash and taken to a hospital.  The three children, all females, are ages 9, 12 and 13.
